Planning a toddler-friendly visit
Days out with little ones rarely follow a perfect plan.
Snack breaks are needed earlier than expected. One child wants to walk very slowly, while another wanders off to investigate something far more interesting than the thing you thought you had come to see. A stick, a flower, a puddle or a fairy door can quickly become the highlight of the day.
At Furzey Gardens, that is part of the joy.
In a world where screens are never far away, Furzey offers families the chance to slow down, step outside and reconnect with nature. Children can swap tablets and televisions for woodland paths, hidden fairy doors and hands-on discovery, while grown-ups enjoy a few hours away from busy schedules.
This is a softer kind of family day out. Not rushed, not over-planned, just space to play, explore and be together in the New Forest’s secret garden.
Let the day unfold, naturally
Furzey is a great place to visit with toddlers and pre-school children because the garden does not need to be tackled all at once.
You can wander for a little while, pause on a bench, find a fairy door, stop for a snack, follow part of a trail, or simply let little legs choose the next path.
There is no need to see everything in one visit. Sometimes the best family days are the ones where you slow down and follow what catches their eye.
Notice nature together
One of the joys of visiting Furzey with young children is seeing what they notice. A leaf on the path. A bee on a flower. A hidden fairy door. A splash of colour. A bird singing in the trees.
You don’t need a complicated activity to make the day feel special. Try asking simple questions as you wander:
What colours can you see?
Can you hear the birds?
Which path should we choose next?
Can you spot a fairy door?
What is your favourite flower today?
Small moments like these help children connect with nature, and give families time together away from screens, noise and busy routines.
Explore the gardens with Furzey Toddles
This summer, our Furzey Toddles offer a lovely way for little ones to explore the gardens. Designed especially for younger children and their grown-ups, these relaxed sessions encourage curiosity, play and discovery in nature.
There is no need to rush from one activity to the next. Children can explore at their own pace, take breaks when they need to, and enjoy the freedom to notice the things that interest them most. Whether that is spotting wildlife, investigating natural treasures or simply enjoying time outdoors, every visit can be different.
The Toddles provide gentle structure while leaving plenty of room for imagination and spontaneous discoveries along the way.

Plan your visit
To help keep Furzey calm and welcoming, we recommend booking your visit in advance, especially during holidays and busier periods.
Bring comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and anything your little one might need for a slower outdoor day. Then let the garden do the rest.
Come for our summer trail, the fairy doors, the snacks, the plants, the tearoom or simply the chance to enjoy a few gentler hours together.
