Luminous Luminara

Gemma Larkham | Instagram: @Gemmalarkhamartist

Based in Salisbury, Wiltshire, I like to explore different mediums and materials to paint on. From painted furniture to murals on walls.

My boys Casey and Brody enjoyed helping me design this year’s trail art.

It’s great to be taking part in the furzey trail for a second year. Creating a portal and creature on a gemstone world was a colourful and creative project to work on.

I think wood is my favorite material to paint on and I have made a collection of wood slice art work that you can take a look at on my Instagram.

The Geode Nomad

Laura Alp | Facebook: @lauraalpsart

The Geode Nomad, a wandering collector of all things shiny.

I’m Laura, a Hampshire based artist, my specialities are sketching and painting. Lots of my illustrations are inspired by my children Ben, Ruby, Ollie, Violet & Bobby.

This particular sluggish alien likes to go around the planets collecting precious gem stones.

Maria Jaroszewicz AKA Selune | Instagram: @selunemariaj

Maria Jaroszewicz AKA Selune is a multidisciplinary artist, specialising in sculpture and installation. She is currently finishing her BA Fine Art at Arts University Bournemouth and planning her future MA in painting.

In her practice she uses heavy texture incorporating natural elements such as earth and water, taking inspiration from spiritual connection with Mother Nature and the Universe, that she perceives as a conscious Oneness. These heavy textures, sculptural accents, her love for crystals and connection to elements are distinctively visible in alien creatures created by the artist for Furzey Gardens.

Meet three alien creatures from lava, water and gem worlds. Each one is shaped by its environment and shows how life can grow in different ways.
Apart from sculpture and painting the artist enjoys working with textiles, photography, moving picture and sound.

Ruby Ruber Rubius

Jill O’Callaghan| Instagram: @Jillocallaghanart

This is Ruby, she travels to different planets, to absorb nutrients from soil, stones and rocks, to maintain her healthy shine.

Sometimes she might change colour, due to the type of nutrients she absorbed, then she would have to change her name.

What different coloured gems could she be?

The shape created by the workshop at Minstead Trust, inspired the idea of big eyes, and the portal was for gems or crystals, so I chose a Ruby and investigated how to paint one, it was a challenge, but I am pleased with the effect.
It’s lovely to have a reason to paint, and to be part of the Minstead Trust, art trails is wonderful.

Slurms

Chris Blandford | Instagram: @myth_memory_photography

I am an artist who enjoys creating imaginative and colourful work. My inspiration often comes from stories, nature, and the small details I notice around me. I like to turn these ideas into something playful and expressive.
My piece is based on my alien character, Slurms. I wanted to create something fun and full of personality, using bright colours and bold shapes to bring him to life. Slurms is curious and a bit mischievous, and I like to imagine the world he comes from.
While making this piece, I experimented with colour and texture to make it stand out and feel lively. I enjoy the process of trying new ideas and seeing how they develop as I work.
Creating art helps me express my thoughts and creativity, and I hope people enjoy meeting Slurms as much as I enjoyed creating him.

Maxamus Sentinol

Laura Guy – LLG Designs | Instagram: @llgdesignsuk

I am a Hampshire based artist and illustrator.
Born and raised near Newcastle, I’ve had a lifelong love of drawing and creating. I moved to Hampshire after finishing my degree in illustration and design.
The majority of my work currently is personalised illustrations and pet portraits but over the years I have undertaken many interesting projects and commissions. I find it really hard to say no!
I have been involved in the art trails for a few years now at Furzey Gardens and love being part of it, this years been even more special as my children have been involved and created a piece too, it’s been fantastic to work along side them and share the journey with them. We are a creative and hands on family. Keep an eye out for Volcarian Galax Ignitus Vulcanox aka Jeremy! And say hi!
Maxamus Sentinol is the pilot of the core walker guardian. The little cosmic being, hidden in its core chamber controls from within as they work together. The core walker bringing strength and the pilot bringing soul.
They drift through a living world grown entirely from colossal gemstones, its armour absorbing energy from starlight and powerful gemstones. As they listen out for broken gems scattered across the universe to collect them and bring them back. Each shard they recover restores fragments of power to the mech.
I wanted to give a fun element to the character, and with the help of my families imagination, a great range of colours and some galactic shimmer I hope I’ve achieved it. It’s been great to paint something different and get stuck in to the theme. Our workshop has looked like its own galactic world for a bit.
