At Furzey Gardens we have nearly 1000 square metres of thatch on our buildings. The Cobb cottage and gallery are thatched with wheat reed, Furzey House (above) with freshwater reed and the round shelter near the lake lined with heather.
Visitors will now be able to see the techniques involved in this ancient craft. A variety of thatching materials are shown on display roofs at eye level, including water reed, longstraw, heather and combed wheat straw.
