Peter Sey painting

27th February - 31st March

"Margins of the sea" by PETER SEY

Peter Sey is an exciting young artist who overcomes the disability of cerebral palsy to produce a range of work in acrylics, pen and ink with a very distinct style, eye for detail and bold use of colour.

The late Tony Hart, much loved T.V. artist of “Take Hart” fame was one of the first to recognise Peter’s unique talent and to buy his work. This exhibition in the delightful gallery setting of Furzey Gardens represents Peter’s work as it has developed over recent years.

Despite being born with a disability and having to live with consequent health problems Peter has always drawn and painted. Pen and ink was his first love, recording the world around him in a highly detailed but not photographic way, hinting at something more of the ambience of the subject.

He then discovered a new love, that of painting in acrylics which enabled him to “go with the flow”, allowing the brush to take over from the disciplined precision of the pen.

There is something “Lowry-esque” in the freedom of expression which he has now found. When you see his painting you will see at once that it is a “Peter Sey”; and just what it is about his style that excited Tony Hart.

(Furzey Gardens is a Charitable Trust working with the Minstead Training Project to promote the development of creative ability and unrecognised talents in people who the world might pass by.)
